Los Angeles, CA — Filmmakers Academy, a premium educational academy created by industry leaders, launches on Monday, November 8th.

Filmmakers Academy replaces and expands upon the legacy of Hurlbut Academy, which has mentored thousands of cinematographers over the past decade. Members will access a wealth of topics including cinematography, directing, lighting, grip and electric.  Coming soon will be courses on color correction, post production and wellness.

CEO Lydia Hurlbut is excited about what the launch means for behind-the-camera film professionals: “We have created this experience to give novice and experienced filmmakers the big-little breakthroughs that add up to deliver oversized results for their careers. Whether it’s diving into the course content, taking advantage of the personal mentoring opportunities with specific educators or in the community itself, or following a career pathway for learning, we provide what filmmakers need for on-set confidence and success.”

Filmmakers Academy employs the latest online learning tools to provide a wide-ranging and inclusive learning community for artists who want to hone their skills and fast-track their careers. Filmmakers Academy’s diverse mentor-instructors are working artists at the top of their game. Members call this “an amazing platform for creative individuals to learn” where it’s “more than an online education. It’s also a place where you can find work and build friendships that will hopefully last a lifetime.” At least one member notes that the academy provides “the mentor I so desperately needed … having their input has been incredible bringing me back on track.”  More member testimonials are growing at www.filmmakersacademy.com.

Filmmakers Academy (FA) is the online academy for our times. Based on member surveys of what will be most useful and effective, the FA team is busy expanding their offerings beyond cinematography to include courses in directing, editing, color correction and producing — and wellness. Every course is taught by outstanding filmmakers who can also mentor members. Members have access to 800+ hours of video content which covers cinematography, directing, lighting, camera and lenses, grading, editing, color correction, post production and more. The content is updated regularly and members can join the ongoing conversation at FA’s private social media groups, trading tips and opportunities in a friendly and inclusive virtual community.

“We’re cultivating a community built on love,” says Filmmakers Academy CEO Lydia Hurlbut. “Along with all the tech information that professionals need on-set, we provide a support network that actually helps members thrive. This is a creative space that becomes like a ‘film family’ for our members. Our mentors understand where you are at in your career, understand the pain points, and cheer you on as you develop as a filmmaker. This includes a strong emphasis on maintaining wellness and life balance.”

Filmmakers Academy builds upon a trail-blazing cinematographer’s efforts to share the tools and techniques of craft that he has learned on-set. In 2009, Shane Hurlbut, ASC, founded The Hurlblog to give back to the content industry. Together with his wife, entrepreneur, RN and wellness-expert Lydia Hurlbut, he envisioned a place where filmmakers could learn about current techniques from the real-world applications Shane developed over his 30 years of shooting major feature films, television commercials, music videos and premium streaming content. Over the past decade, their company grew into the Hurlbut Academy (HA), which has mentored and fostered the careers of  thousands of people.

Now, under the direction of CEO Lydia Hurlbut, Filmmakers Academy builds upon HA’s legacy and mission, providing members with access to the latest tech, tricks and skills necessary to excel in today’s industry.

As Hurlbut says, “Our new learning content allows filmmakers to skip past years of trial and error by learning how the masters work. We get right to the heart of what busy professionals need to know — right now, including our emphasis on staying healthy while working in such an intense business.”

The All Access model of annual membership allows both novice and experienced film professionals to find just the right information and resources, 24/7 with access to special mentoring and networking opportunities all year long.

For a limited time, the All Access annual membership is $396 (equivalent to $8 a week), which makes Filmmakers Academy extremely competitive in the world of online film schools. The introductory price will expire in April 2022, when member All Access fees will rise to $475 annually.
