Dattner Dispoto and Associates (DDA) has announced that their clients’ cinematography will be featured in four new upcoming film releases.
Bradford Lipson – The Wedding Ringer
Brad’s hilarious next film, The Wedding Ringer, is a Sony/Screen Gems comedy starring Josh Gad as a loner who hires a “wedding ringer,” played by Kevin Hart, to be the best man at his wedding. Directed by Jeremy Garelick, the film opens Jan. 16, 2015.
Lipson also lensed the first two seasons of FX’s Wilfred. He won Outstanding Cinematography awards from the ASC and the Pan-American Association of Film & Television Journalists for his work on the series. These were unprecedented achievements, as he won for imagery captured on Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras.
Rachel Morrison – Cake
Cinelou Films will screen the critically acclaimed TIFF hit Cake, starring Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick and Sam Worthington, for one week in Dec. before its official U.S. opening in Jan. (Firm dates yet to be advised).
Morrison is working at the forefront of cinema, channeling the core emotion of each story she shoots into arresting imagery. In June 2013, she received the Kodak’s Vision Award at Women in Film annual Crystal + Lucy Awards, for her outstanding achievements in cinematography.
Her feature credits include: Little Accidents, the story of a mining disaster in an Appalachian town, which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and The Harvest, a thriller starring Michael Shannon; Some Girl(s), directed by Daisy von Mayer and starring Emily Watson, Zoe Kazan, Kristin Bell, Mia Maestro, Jennifer Morrison and Adam Brody; the winner of eight festival audience awards Any Day Now starring Alan Cumming; and Fruitvale Station, which won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, plus the Prix de l’avenir (Prize of the Future) in the Un Certain Regard competition at Cannes.
Stefan Czapsky, ASC – Max
Stefan Czapsky, ASC’s next film Max with director Boaz Yakin, is a family adventure film starring Josh Wiggins, Lauren Graham, Robbie Amell and Thomas Haden Church. Warner Bros. Entertainment will release the film on Jan. 30, 2015. This is a heart-warming story about a traumatised dog that is adopted by his handler’s family when he returns to the U.S. after helping soldiers in Afghanistan.
Czapsky’s camera has captured visually iconic films such as Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns and Ed Wood for director Tim Burton. For the latter, Czapsky won four cinematography awards from the National Society of Film Critics as well as the Los Angeles, New York and Boston Film Critics.
His feature resume also includes comedic hits Matilda and Blades of Glory along with action pictures including Bulletproof Monk, Fighting and Safe.
Xavier Grobet, ASC – Focus
Focus, starring Will Smith, opens Feb. 27, 2015. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the film is a romantic comedy about a veteran grafter (Smith), who gets caught in a complicated situation with an attractive woman (Margot Robbie). The film is being released by Warner Bros.
Grobet is currently lensing the second season of HBO’s Looking, a comedy-drama about a group of friends living in San Francisco; the series is slated for an early 2015 premiere. His latest projects include: the CW’s pilot for Jane the Virgin; Netflix’s new series Marco Polo, to be released Dec. 12.
