Los Angeles, CA – Two Dattner Dispoto and Associates (DDA) clients, Stephen St. John and Neville Kidd have been nominated for 2014 Emmy Awards. RSA’s spot Puppy Love is in the running for Outstanding Commercial — it was lensed by Paul Cameron, ASC. Stephen St. John earned a nomination for Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or Movie for his work on National Geographic Channel’s Killing Kennedy.
“It was a great shoot,” says St. John “and this is the perfect acknowledgement of our team’s creative contribution. I am humbled and deeply honored.” St. John shot episodes of Lost and True Blood before working with director Nelson McCormick on the TV movie about the assassination of JFK, starring Rob Lowe as President Kennedy and Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald. This is St. John’s first Emmy nomination.
“Stephen’s cinematographic work on Killing Kennedy is outstanding, given his approach to capturing the entire story, while revealing the essence of each character with insight and sensitivity,” says agent Dan Burnside.
New DDA client Neville Kidd is nominated for Outstanding Cinematography For A Miniseries Or Movie for his work on Sherlock: His Last Vow (Masterpiece), starring Benedict Cumberbatch. “Being nominated for an Emmy for Sherlock is just mind blowing. I’m so thrilled,” says Kidd. “Finding new ways to shoot one of the best looking shows on TV is what I loved about filming ‘His Last Vow.'”
“Neville’s photography on this episode is particularly inventive,” says his agent Danica Pupa. “There are sequences where we get to see Sherlock’s mind at work. Neville’s combination of techniques creates a hallucinatory effect that is a real visual hallmark for the show.” Kidd is currently shooting the highly anticipated series Outlander, based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestseller for producer Ron Moore at Starz, which premieres Aug. 9. He also shot the DR. WHO season finale of the doctor’s 11th incarnation, starring Matt Smith.
Nominated within a team for Outstanding Commercial is DP Paul Cameron, ASC for the wildly popular Puppy Love, directed by Jake Scott of RSA for Budweiser. The spot has drawn more than 51 million views on YouTube.
